KMHS Magnet Kids make a difference in their community. Here are just a few examples:
Elizabeth Kim
(2013) volunteered this summer (and continues to when she can) at C.A.M.P, a
local food bank and clothing closet in Austell. www.svcamp.org
Scott Williams
(2011) raised money to build a preschool playground for special needs children
at Hayes Elementary for his Eagle Project and has volunteered at Vacation Bible
school for several years in the summer.
Nora Rekoske
(2013) spent a week in June on a mission trip to Managua, Nicaragua. She
worked in 2 different schools, organizing a new library in one school and
painting the other.
Brandon
and Cody Huggins
(2012) are currently working at the Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville.
Their jobs include: co-pilot in the planetarium, fossil dig, gem panning,
Foucault pendulum education, greeters and working special events. They
attend regular training and seminars to increase their knowledge and to share
this information with the public. Volunteers are required to interview and
attend regular training sessions, as well as to commit to at least 8 hours per
month for a year.
Clayton
Lawrence
(2014) donated his time and talent at a recent Family Day event held for
approximately 220 active duty and reserve Marines, Sailors, and family members
from 4th Dental Battalion and Headquarters & Service Battalion aboard
Dobbins Air Reserve Base in Marietta, GA. Clayton was the sole musician
for the August 8th event. This dynamic Alto Saxophonist
captivated the crowd with smooth and upbeat sounds by world-renowned artists
like Kenny G, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and more.
Marissa Rebello
(2012) was nominated for an Ovation Award in the Volunteer category for her work
at the Big Shanty Art Station. She volunteered over 100 hours this summer and
thoroughly enjoyed working to support the arts with preschool and elementary
school children.
Lesa Miller (2012)
participated as
a student mentor in the Kennesaw Mountain Writing Project s Youth Writing
Academy for rising 9th and 10th graders.
